batik technique

What you need to make batik cards:

  • Flour (not self-raising flour)
  • Water
  • A bowl or container to mix the flour and water
  • A spout bottle
  • A piece of cotton cloth
  • Cardboard and paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors

  • Paint brushes
  • Fabric paint

Read through all the instructions first before making these cards.

Step 1

Cut your cotton material into 10cm x 8cm pieces, cut as many as you going to make cards out of

Step 2

Draw your designs onto the 10cm x 8cm pieces of cloth. You can trace the design onto your cloth by masking taping your design, then cloth onto a window where the sun is shining. This works as a light box. i have chosen to go for nice african designs.

Step 3

Mix 2 tablespoons of flour (not self- raising) with 2 tablespoons of water in your bowl, to form a liquid paste. Be careful not to allow lumps to form. Best way is to use cold water.
