Read through all the instructions first before starting this craft.
Make a copy of the Winnie the Pooh picture and enlarge it according to the size of your place mat blank. Keep the original picture on hand as an example of how to colour your picture.
Take the carbon paper and secure it to your place mat using masking tape. Put the Winnie the Pooh picture on top of the carbon paper. Using a pencil, trace the Winnie the Pooh picture onto the placemat transferring the design. Ensure that the masking tape is not left on the place mat for more than two hours, as this makes removal of the masking tape difficult and could leave unsightly marks on your placemat.
Remove masking tape, carbon paper and black and white Winnie the Pooh picture and make sure the design has properly transferred onto the placemat. Make sure that all areas of the design are well defined on the place mat.
Cut your mosaic tiles into small pieces using your two wheel tile cutter. Small sections of the design require small pieces cut up into 5 – 7 mm triangle pieces. The finer the level of detail, the smaller the pieces will need to be to create the necessary definition.
Select the area of the design and colour you want to start working on. If you have done mosaic before you can glue an entire section at a time and then start placing the tile bits. For beginners it is usually best to glue the design on piece for piece as we don’t want the glue drying and creating an uneven surface.
It is better to work with one colour of mosaic tile at a time and then move on to the next colour. This prevents confusion and a messy end product.
When you have completed one colour, move to the next colour and work through the design until the picture is completely coloured in with the mosaic tiles.
When your picture is done you can start working on the background. Try using smooth sides of mosaic tiles to line the edges of your place mat. This will create a smooth background.
Once complete, leave overnight to allow the glue to dry properly. Now it is time for you to grout the mosaic. Refer to Step 13 of the Teddy Bear on Moon craft to complete the grouting.
Wipe off the excess grout using a dry cloth to bring a shine to the surface of the mosaic.
Your Winnie the Pooh mosaic place mat is now complete.
