Cut out four x 22cm squares from your main fabric for the exterior of your pot holders.
Cut out 4 x 20cm squares of fabric for your pot holder inner.
Cut out 2 x 20cm squares of batting or felt for padding.
Zig zag stitch around the two outer main fabric pieces.
Take two of the inner squares and place the felt or batting between them. Sew the squares together so they cannot move around, stitching in a cross formation (+).
Zig zag stitch around the three squares to secure them in place and finish off the edges at the same time. Place aside.
Take the two main fabric pieces and turn them inside out, so that the right sides are facing each other.
Using a straight stitch, sew them together nearly all the way around, leaving about a 4cm opening.
Turn the pot holder inside out so the right side is showing.
Squeeze the inside piece through the 4cm opening. Once it is inside, even it out and make sure it lies completely flat.
Cut a 6cm length of ribbon or cotton braid and insert it into the opening. Place one end on top and one end at the bottom of the inner piece. This will be the loop that you will use to hang up your pot holder.
Fold your outer fabric hem inwards. Pin the hem and ribbon in place so that you can sew all the pieces together. Straight stitch over the open section you have just pinned. Close up the opening and secure your ribbon or cotton braid in place.
Sewing on the right hand side of the fabric, stitch around the entire square. Your stitching should be on the right hand side of the fabric and approximately 5mm from the edge. Cut off any loose threads and wash before using to complete your fabric potholers.
