Valentines' Day has long been celebrated as the day to show someone you care, or to make that infamous first move! This woven card design is unique and original in its concept and can be made in minutes by anyone over 5 years old.

What you will need:

  • Two A4 sheets of cardboard – one red, one cream, or any two colours of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Knife
  • Glue
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Protractor, or any round object (I just used a roll of cellotape!)

Step 1

Fold your cream coloured piece of cardboard in half.

Step 2

Use a protractor, or any round object to trace a half moon 1.5cm from the top of your folded cardboard.

Step 3

Use your ruler to join the end of your half circle to the edge of your cardboard where it is folded, and draw 4 slots 2cm apart on your design.

Step 4

Unfold your cardboard and use your craft knife to cut along the slots you have drawn onto one half of the cardboard.

Step 5

Repeat step 1 – 4 on your other coloured sheet of cardboard, but do not fold it in half and use your craft knife to cut along the slots. You only need one half of this part of the card.

Step 6

Weave the two pieces together, starting with the first row, one over, one under and repeat.

Step 7

This is what your card should look like as it starts taking the shape of a heart.

Step 8

When done you can pull at the edges to get the lines into place more firmly.

Step 9

Use your glue to glue down the loose ends on either side of the cover of your card.

NOTE: This card does not have to be used for Valentine's Day - why not make a woven card for Father's or Mother's Day?
