Let your children have a whole lot of fruit fun with this fun-filled fruity craft. They'll love watching the fruit shrink as "granny's" face wrinkles over time.
This craft gives them a fun, scary, fruit doll to play with!
Make sure you have a clean and tidy workspace. Cover your workspace with plastic or brown paper.
Peel your entire Granny Smith apple.
Push your skewer ¾ of the way into the core of your apple.
Push the 2 black beads into the surface of the apple, spaced evenly apart. These will be your Granny Apple’s eyes.
Get an adult to help you carve a triangle into your apple, underneath the eyes, for Granny Apple’s nose, and a crescent under the triangle for her smile using a craft knife.
Fill the empty bottle ¾ of the way with rice or sand. This will make the bottle heavy, so that your Granny Apple doesn’t fall over.
Place the skewer (which has Granny Apple’s head on it) into the bottle.
Wrap a generous amount of grey wool around your hand.
Remove the wool from your hand, making sure it stays in shape.
Cut another short length of wool and loop it through your ring of wool.
Double knot that wool, and then cut your ring of wool directly opposite where the knot is.
Place this wool on top of Granny Apple’s head, securing it with a pin.
Place your scrap material around the plastic bottle and over the back of Granny Apple’s head, to make a hooded cloak.
Leave Granny Apple somewhere where she won’t be disturbed, and watch as she ages or ‘shrinkles’ over the next few weeks.
And there you have it! Your very own fun-filled fruit Granny Apple! NOTE: To speed up Granny Apple’s aging process, place her in the sun for a few hours.
