This is a simple fabric project that you can do with the younger kids, aged 4+. Be careful though, as it does use a pin which is very pokey. An adult will be required to help the younger kids to finish off the end as they may find it hard to close the safety pin and stop the beads falling off.

Read through all the instructions first before starting this craft. Make sure you have all required items on hand.
Cut out your paper pattern butterflies with a paper scissors. These are your pattern pieces.
Pin your paper pattern pieces each onto one square of felt.
Cut out your two butterfly pieces, but be careful if you're using a fabric scissors not to cut into the paper pattern! Cutting paper with fabric scissors can make them blunt!!!
Take your safety pin and a pipe cleaner, thread the pipe cleaner through the loop at the bottom of the safety pin, fold the pipe cleaner in half.
Take the one end of the pipe cleaner and thread it through the top of the safety pin.
Take the other end of the pipe cleaner and also thread it through the top of the pin from the other direction.
Fill your pin up with beads that will match your two pieces of felt.
Take your two pieces of felt and place one on top of the other. With the beads facing you, put the two pieces of felt into the pin and close the pin.
Bend your pipe cleaners in the shape of feelers. With fabric or craft glue you can now glue two little plastic eyes onto the pipe cleaners near the safety pin.
You can now use buttons or embellishments to stick them all over your butterfly to decorate it. You can tie it up from the roof with thin nylon gut and a cup hook.
