What you will need:

  • 3x cardboard tubes from toilet rolls
  • Patterned paper
  • Glue that dries clear, such as Pritt Power Gel
  • Chipboard base*
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Embellishments of your choice

*You can use almost anything as a base, even an old CD or CD case will make an excellent base on which to build your upcycled toilet roll stationery holder.

what you need to make a recycled toilet roll stationery holder

Step 1

Cut your recycled toilet rolls so that each roll is a slightly different size. Leave one full length, cut one slightly shorter, and the next one shorter than that.

Step 2

Paint the inside of the recycled cardboard tubes using the paint and paintbrush. I used green paint. Leave to dry.

Step 3

Paint the chipboard base and leave to dry. You could also cover it with pretty patterned paper instead.

Step 4

Using the scissors, cut the patterned paper. You need one piece for each roll, and each piece needs to be big enough to wrap around and cover the recycled toilet roll.

Step 5

Cover the recycled cardboard tubes with the pretty patterned paper, gluing the patterned paper into place.

Step 6

Stick tubes down onto the chipboard base & leave to dry. Use clear drying glue for this – I recommend Pritt Power Gel.

Step 7

Now your stationery holder is ready to be decorated - use whatever embellishments you like to give your recycled toilet roll stationery holder an extra personal touch. I used flowers, butterflies and some ribbon around the top to decorate my stationery holder.

Step 8

Your recycled toilet roll stationery holder is now complete and is ready for use, add some pens, pencils and other stationery items and enjoy!
