There is so much we can do with all the rubbish that we throw away. With this project we collected used bubble wrap which would have otherwise ended up in the trash and eventually on a landfill site.
We used the larger bubble wrap for this project. This type of bubblewrap is commonly used to package HP computer parts, as well printer toners. I am sure tons of this must be thrown away every day, a real pity when you consider how easy it is to upcycle the bubblewrap into outdoor cushion covers.
This is really a great idea to use for your outside furniture as the airtube packaging is super durable and can stand most weather conditions. They dry easy as they don't have sponge or fabrics on the inside so it makes these a great recycled alternative to outside cushions.
Untie the cotton handles on the recycled bag.
If you make the bags yourself you need to make a simple slip cover type bag with button holes at the top of the bag for the cotton ties to go into. The bubble wrap comes in various sizes so you can make your cushion the size that best fits your chairs.
Cut your bubble wrap the to the correct size to fit snuggly into your bag, and work it into the recycled shopping bag.
Insert the string from the outside into one button hole, through and out the other side so that you have a string going through both holes.
Do this on the other side too.
You can now just tie the two strings together to make a bow, or you can use these as ties onto a chair back to give you back support.
Make another upcycled cushion cover and tie it to the seat so it does not move around, and voila! Your upcycled bubblewrap cushion is now complete and ready to be used!
