What you need to make a Floating Necklace:

  • Beads
  • Crimps
  • Barrel clasp
  • Pliers
  • Side-cutters
  • Acculon or soft flex wire
what you will need

Read through all the instructions first before starting this craft.

Step 1

First, decide which colour beads and acculon you are going to use. I am using gun metal pearl beads, so I'm using black acculon. Acculon or soft flex comes in a variety of different colours.

Step 2

Measure the length of your necklace, an average length is 48 - 50cm.

Step 3

Cut the wire loops off the barrel clasp, and remove the excess wire.

Step 4

Thread the end of the acculon through one half of the barrel clasp, add a crimp on either side. First squash the crimp on the outside of the barrel clasp, using the tip of your pliers. Pull the acculon hard, so that the crimp is hidden within the barrel.

Step 5

Squash the other crimp onto the acculon close to the barrel clasp. This keeps the barrel clasp in place.

Step 6

Space the beads next to a ruler or measuring tape. I have made my spaces 5cm between beads, since my length is 50cm.

Step 7

Place a crimp on either side of the bead and squash the crimps on both sides of the bead, to keep the bead in place.

Step 8

Repeat this every 5cm until your necklace is complete.

Step 9

Add the other half of the barrel clasp, placing a crimp inside the barrel and on the back end of it. Remember to squash the crimp that will be hidden within the barrel first, then pull the barrel over it and squash the crimp on the other side of the barrel.
