What you need to make mosaic heart:
- Heart bisque
- Assortment of tiles, mirror and ceramic inserts
- Wood Glue
- Tile cutter
- Wheel cutter
- Light grey grouting
- Water
- Mixing bowl and spoon
- Sponge
- Old dry towel
- Container with water for cleaning off sponge
- Clear Silicone Glue
Read through all the instructions first before starting this craft.
Step 1
Plan out your design straight onto the template (heart bisque) using a pencil.
Step 2
Glue down the tiles according to your plan. Apply glue straight to the bisque and not onto each separate tile, this is less messy and faster.
Step 3
Once all the tiles are stuck down, leave to dry before grouting. When gravity takes its toll and you are finding it difficult to glue down your tiles because of the heart being 3D, then use a little marine silicone for those particular areas
Step 4
Mix the grout powder with very little water at a time, mix until you have reached a medium to thick paste.
Step 5
Apply the grout liberally over the heart making sure to go into all the open spaces and cracks. Let to set for approximately 10 minutes or longer if you made a thick layer of grout paste. Allow to set but not to dry!
Step 6
Using a sponge or a soft cloth, dip into clean water, wring dry and wipe away all excess grout. Re apply the cloth into clean water until the entire heart is clean of all excess grout. Make sure not to wash nor soak the heart with water. Allow to dry for a couple hours
Step 7
Polish the mosaic heart with a dry clean soft cloth or sponge, by just wiping away any extra grout/dust that has been left behind.
Tip: Use latex gloves when grouting. You can now use your hands and not get them dirty or dry from the grout. It also helps you to work the grout into those little gaps that would normally be difficult to get to using a grouting tool or spatula, and best of all, using your hands makes you feel like a kid again!
Step 8
Your mosaic heart is now complete.
