Description
Hand-Cut Upcycled Glass Candle, Made in South Africa
Description:
Every one of these candles begins its life as a celebration. Our makers rescue champagne bottles that once popped at weddings, milestones and Friday nights, then hand-cut and polish each one into a glowing keepsake with its original label still intact.
Because each bottle is cut and finished by hand, no two candles are ever quite the same. The glass keeps the character of the bottle it came from, while the polished rim gives it a clean, contemporary look that sits beautifully on a dinner table, bathroom shelf or bedside stand. Once cut, each vessel is filled with 300 ml of recycled paraffin wax and finished with your choice of wick, from a crackling natural wooden wick to a classic braided cotton one.
This is slow, skilled work. Cutting glass cleanly takes a steady hand and years of practice, and every candle passes through those hands from bottle to finished piece. When you buy one, you support skilled South African makers who are building sustainable businesses, and you keep a perfectly good bottle out of landfill, where glass can sit for thousands of years. In other words, it smells wonderful and it does good at the same time.
Make it yours:
Choose from scents like Cherry Blossom, Vanilla and Lavender, or go fully custom. You can keep the label, remove it, or replace it with a sandblasted design. Popular bottle styles include Veuve Clicquot, Graham Beck and Moët & Chandon, depending on stock, and you can also supply a bottle with personal meaning to you. A wedding toast, an anniversary bubbly or a graduation celebration becomes a candle you light again and again, which makes this one of the most sentimental gifts on our shelves.
Further options include soya wax, coloured wax, additional scents, personalised branding for corporate gifts, and repurposed wine or other glass bottles. For bulk orders, we can source the bottles or you can supply your own. Simply contact us with your preferences.
